MY SCHOOLS WEBSITE LIVE

Posted January 28, 2010 | Tags: schools

Minster for Human Services and local Federal MP, Chris Bowen, has welcomed the Government’s My School Website.

“The website will enable parents to access the most comprehensive information that’s ever been available about each and every school in Fairfield,” Mr Bowen said.

“As a parent myself, having access to comprehensive information about your children’s school is important.”

The site includes the results from two years of national literacy and numeracy testing, student and teacher numbers, attendance rates, socio-economic status, year 12 retention rates and the number of boys and girls at each school.

“The My School Website will also allow the community to see how local schools are doing compared with statistically similar schools, as well as against the national average,” Mr Bowen said.

This will allow the Government to identify what schools are doing well and will share that best practice.  And for schools that need a helping hand to lift standards, the Government will have new money and new targeted programs in order to help them lift those standards.

“This is the first time this kind of information has been available about every school in the country and I believe parents deserve to have this rich information about their child’s school,” Mr Bowen said.

“Kids only get one chance at education and I believe that we all, parents, teachers and the community, want to ensure it’s world class.”

My School is the next step in the Australian Government’s Education Revolution reforms that are driving vital improvements in school education across Australia.

The site is managed by the new national education authority, the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority.
