Bowen turns first sod at Fairfield Public School

Minister for Human Services and local Federal MP, Chris Bowen visited Fairfield Public School to turn the first sod on the construction of new classrooms under the Rudd Government’s Primary Schools for the 21st Century program.

“The last of the primary school stimulus funding announcements were made at the end of 2009 and it’s great to see construction work begin in our local school community,” Mr Bowen said.

“The investment in new and upgraded classrooms will give local students access to high-quality, 21^st century learning facilities.”

Fairfield Public School received $180,000 for the construction of new classroom facilities as well as $120,000 for the refurbishment and upgrading of existing classrooms.

“This is an exciting phase in the largest school modernisation program in Australia’s history,” Mr Bowen said.

The project at Fairfield Public School, like others in schools across Fairfield, is part of the Rudd Government’s $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan to support jobs, stimulate local economies and invest in important infrastructure for the long-term.

“This project will be of great benefit to this and future generations of students,” Mr Bowen said.

“Parents, teachers and tradespeople will work together to deliver these important projects, that once completed, will provide the 21st century facilities that our kids and their teachers so richly deserve.”
